Asked to verify your identity?
A company you are signing up with uses Verificate to check that you are who you say you are. It takes a few minutes, on your phone. The company decides what it needs from you, and it tells you the result.
Is the link genuine?
Links for a verification always start with https://verificate.me/v#. Verificate never asks for a password, a bank card or a payment. If you did not expect a link, do not open it: ask the company you think sent it.
What you will do
Your permission
To verify your identity, Acme asks your permission to:
- Photograph your identity document and read the details on it.
- Take photos and video of your face, and record your voice.
- Compare your face with the photo on your document.
- Check that the pictures are real and were taken just now.
I agree to my pictures, video and biometric data being used as described here.
You are asked for your permission first.

Recording
Or to read a sentence aloud.
- Give your permission. You will see what is collected and why before the camera starts. You can say no.
- Photograph your identity document. Place it on a dark, flat surface, keep all four corners inside the frame, and avoid glare and shadows. Use the original document, not a copy or a picture on a screen.
- Take a selfie, if you are asked for one. Face a window or a lamp, take off sunglasses, hats and masks, and make sure nobody else is in the picture.
- Record a short video, if you are asked for one. A sentence appears when you press record. Read it out loud, at your normal pace, in a quiet place. You get a different sentence each time you record.
- Add a proof of address, if you are asked for one. A bill or a statement with your name and address, recent enough for the company. You can photograph it or upload a file.
If a photo cannot be used, for example because it is blurred, you are asked to take that one again on the same link.
What happens to your pictures
- They are checked for the company that asked, and for nothing else. They are stored securely, and deleted once they are no longer needed for your verification or required by law.
- Your face is compared with the photo on your document. The measurements used for that comparison are never stored.
- Only people the company has named can look at your pictures, and every look is recorded.
The security and privacy page has the details.
Your choices
- You can refuse. Without your permission you cannot be verified on the page, so ask the company whether there is another way.
- You can withdraw your permission and ask for your data to be deleted at any time, by contacting the company that sent you the link. Verificate works for that company and deletes what it is asked to.
If something goes wrong
- The link has expired
- Ask the company for a new link.
- The camera does not start
- Allow camera access for the page in your browser's settings, then reload the page. For the video, allow the microphone too.
- The link opened inside another app
- Some apps cannot use the camera. Copy the link and open it in Safari or Chrome.
- It says the verification is open on another device
- Carry on where you started it, or start again on this device, which moves it here.
- A photo was too dark or blurred
- Move to better light, hold the phone steady, and take it again.
- You have used all your attempts
- Contact the company. It can let you try again on the same link.
